Houshold Hints
If you have a useful tip email me.
Wax
You can remove wax from clothes and carpet by covering it with newspaper and ironing it - the wax melts into the paper.
Red wine
Dump lots of salt onto red wine stains and it will soak the wine up.
Fish
Lemon juice contins ciric acid which breaks down the ester that makes fish smell.
Garlic
To peel garlic cloves chrush them with the flat of a knife.
Avocado, Apples and Pears
Brush sliced avocado, apples and pears with lemon juice to stop them going brown.
Rust
Lemon juice or vinegar remove rust stains. These are acids that react with an oxide to form a salt and water.
Iodine
Iodine is a very effective antiseptic, used in hospitals. It can also be used to purify water, 5 drops of 2% iodone solution per litre, wait 15-30 minutes depending if the water is clear or cloudy. Apparently sugar binds to the iodine so will remove the taste.
Chicken
Salmonella
Raw chicken can cause salmonella poisoning so never cut veges on the same chopping board that you have used for raw chicken. Wash the chopping board and knives with very hot soapy water.
Cooking
Chicken is cooked when the juice runs clear when you stab it.
